The 2008 RX-8 is an important vehicle to Mazda for the coupe market segment. The Grand Touring is a member of a series of three trim levels for the RX-8 which include Grand Touring and Sport. The four-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Mazda. There is strong competition from vehicles from Nissan.
One of the staples of the Coupe segment is the Nissan 350Z. In the previous model year debuted a brand new version of the 350Z with five versions: Nismo, Touring, Grand Touring, Enthusiast, and Base. Sales for the 350Z, especially the 350Z Grand Touring, were brisk during 2008 and 2009. The improved vehicle quality and the modern styling were responsible for the boost in sales.

Several things can be said about the Nissan 350Z series: including the polarizing reactions most buyers have towards their car. The six-cylinder engine is at the heart of the strong emotions, it is powerful for its class and delivers a large amount of torque.
